Japan - It's an accepted position by most that follow the industry, but Japan really is dominated by handheld systems and this week drives that point home. In one of the biggest weeks of the year, weekly hardware sales were dominated by the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP and sold three hundred and eighty thousand units in one week while taking more than 64% of all systems sold.
The Wii had another dominating week with one hundred and twenty thousand sold, but slipped back to only 20% market share for total systems after a string of 22%-24% weeks.
Sony's PS3, while far behind the Wii, had a decent week for itself at sixty one thousand sold and took 10% of the market. The 360 and PS2, at twenty thousand and twelve and a half thousand respectively, brought in the rear.
