Handheld Nation: DS & PSP Software Dominate Japan

12/4/08

Japan - The DS and PSP have done it yet again; software for the handheld systems combined to take over 57% of sales in the first 11 months of 2008.

The DS did its fair share in that arrangement by more than doubling PSP's software market share of 18.30% and sits at the top of the mountain with 38.79% -- more than double any other platform.

On the console front, Wii leads the pack with five and a half million software units sold which is two times more than the PS3.

This is a common mistake, but "two times more" would mean "three times as much".

No. Two times more means x2, or 200%. Three times as much is 300%.

"More" and "as much" are not the same thing.

If I say something sold "one time as much" as PS3, it sold the same amount. If I say something sold "one time more" than PS3, it means it sold as much as PS3 did, plus another PS3 sized amount, or twice as much.

*Twice as much
*One time more
*200% as much
*100% more
all mean the same thing.

Ahh. I see your point. Thank you.

Either way, it was probably ambiguous and could have been more well written.
